It's not just about which teams make the final in tomorrow's Semi-Final return games. There's also the question of where the Final will be played.
Simply, team with the best overall record in the Champions Hockey League 2017/18 gets the right to host the final (also subject to CHL approval). Here's the overall scenario for where the final could be:
The Final will be in Trinec if:
- Trinec advances to the Final
The Final will be in Växjö if:
- Växjö wins the game vs Liberec in 60 minutes, and JYP beats Trinec in OT/SO
- Växjö wins the game vs Liberec in 60 minutes, and JYP beats Trinec in 60 minutes BUT JYP's winning margin is less than 3 goals more than Växjö's
- Växjö and JYP both advance to the Final in OT/SO
- Växjö and JYP both advance to the Final with identical records.
The Final will be Jyväsklä if:
- JYP and Liberec advance to the Final
- JYP wins the game in Třinec and Växjö vs. Liberec goes to OT/SO
- JYP wins the game in Třinec by 3 more goals than Växjö wins the game vs Liberec
There is no mathematical chance for Liberec to win the right to host the Final.
What if the teams are tied overall?
It's possible that both Växjö Lakers and JYP Jyväskylä could both make the final, and be tied on points overall. In this case, the tie-break will go down to Goal Difference, and then Goals Scored. If it's a dead heat and they have identical records on these criteria, then the ultimate tie-break is to award the hosting right to the team that was higher seeded in the Group Stage Draw. In this case, the Lakers would get it, as they were #8 compared to JYP at #21 overall.
