- Storhamar's powerplay efficiency (67%) helped them stay in the matchup
- Three goals unassisted
- Skellefteå unable to get their special teams firing
A deceiving goalless first period was by no means a reflection of how this game was going to unravel after seven shots found their way into the back of the net in the following 20 minutes.
Skellefteå AIK's Norwegian forward Mathis Olimb opened the scoring at 20:40 after some great shielding in front of the net by Jimmie Ericsson allowed him to tuck it into a practically empty net. Storhamar Hamar kept themselves in the game and were rewarded when Steffen Thoresen created himself a breakaway opportunity which he placed through the five-hole of Gustaf Lindvall after dispossessing a Skellefteå player on the blue line at 25.31.
A blitz of three goals in the space of just under three minutes seemingly gave Skellefteå a healthy lead, the latter of which came from Patrik Norén, who fired a precise shot past the screened Oskar Östlund at 31:47.
The home side, however, took inspiration from the goals they conceded by orchestrating two of their own, the first of which came on the powerplay, before this hectic period could conclude. The next goal in this game at 4-3 was going to be key. It went to Storhamar after forward Jens Jakob scored his side's second powerplay goal to crucially level the game at 4-4. The scoreline remained this way until the final buzzer, leaving everything to play for in the second leg.
