The Nitra hockey club was founded in 1931, but the sport has been played in the city since 1925. The 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons have been the most successful in the club's history, finishing second place in the Slovak Extraliga both times. The most famous players to be produced in Nitra are Jozef Stumpel, Žigmund Pálffy, Jozef Daňo and Dušan Milo.
