Villach SV were founded in 1923 in the Carinthian city of Villach. The team colours are blue and white. Villach have been in the top Austrian league since 1977 and have a large fanbase in the southern part of the country.

All home games are played in the Villacher Stadthalle (capacity 4800).

Villach SV have an important youth program in Austria - some of its best-known products are NHLers Michael Grabner (New York Islanders) and Michael Raffl (Philadelphia Flyers).

Villach participated in the inaugural 2014/15 CHL season, finishing third in Group C with a 2-4 record.
