The Champions Hockey League's leader in points and assists, Norwegian winger Mathis Olimb of Frölunda Gothenburg is the first winner of the NordicBet MVP Trophy!
Press Release
Tonight the winner of the 2014–15 Champions Hockey League is decided. All three nominees of the NordicBet MVP Trophy are on the ice for the final game – Mathis Olimb & Erik Gustafsson of Frölunda Gothenburg and Joel Lassinatti of Luleå Hockey.
Of the three nominees, the pick of the jury is Cramo Top Scorer Mathis Olimb. Heading into the final, the Norwegian had 7 goals and 18 assists in 12 games, and he added a goal in the first period of the final.
”I’m so proud for this award. It’s the biggest individual award of my hockey career. Considering the competition of the tournament, I feel even more honoured that the jury picked me as the MVP. It must have been a tough choice,” says Olimb, winner of the NordicBet MVP Trophy.
The awarding jury consists of ex NHL player/Team Sweden GM and now NordicBet expert Johan Garpenlöv, editor at ChampionsHockeyLeague.net Derek O’Brien, editor at HockeySverige Robert Pettersson, journalist Panu Markkanen and Mikael Nilsson, Marketing Manager at NordicBet.
Here’s the reasoning for the jury's selection:
Mathis Olimb:
”Mathis Olimb has, with his individual talent, led Frölunda in an exceptional way throughout the season. At the top of the points table for the tournament, and with the most assists, he has proven his offensive abilities without ignoring his defensive responsibilities. On top of his individual skills, he’s also got the rare ability to make his teammates better players in all aspects of the game, and you quickly understand how important he’s been to Frölunda through the course of the season. That is what makes Mathis Olimb the tournament MVP and a very worthy winner of the NordicBet MVP Trophy.”
