At 59:27 of Gameday 4’s contest between Adler Mannheim and Vienna Capitals, Head Coach Pavel Gross of Adler Mannheim was involved in an incident deemed as Unsportsmanlike Conduct. Video evidence was examined by the CHL Sports Disciplinary Board, which determined the incident to be worthy of supplementary discipline.
According to the Arbitrator and having considered the video evidence and ruling of the CHL Sports Disciplinary Board, Head Coach Pavel Gross of Adler Mannheim will receive supplementary discipline under IIHF Rule 168 – Unsportsmanlike Conduct.
From the perspective of the CHL Sports Disciplinary Board, Head Coach Pavel Gross displayed unsportsmanlike conduct, not conducive to the CHL Brand. During a stoppage near the end of the game, a player from each team was exiting the ice via the tunnel to their respective dressing rooms. Immediately after exiting the ice, a form of verbal engagement ensued between the 2 players exiting. After a brief time, both opposing Head Coaches also engaged in confrontation in the tunnel. Pavel Gross located himself at the end of his players bench to engage in a verbal discussion with the opposing Head Coach. It was taken into consideration that the opposing Head Coach had left his players bench for a brief time but this does not justify Pavel Gross’s actions to also become directly involved with the opposing Head Coach in the way of a verbal disagreement.
The CHL prides itself on players’ speed and skill. The CHL also has an expectation of Coaches to lead by example. The example displayed by Gross is not behaviour the CHL will allow.
The CHL Sports Board fines Pavel Gross EUR 600.00 (effective immediately).
