Ahead of the start of the upcoming Champions Hockey League season, we asked the Head Coaches of Fehérvár AV19's six Regular Season opponents what their thoughts are on the Hungarian team - here's what they had to say!
Dynamo Pardubice Head Coach Marek Zadina: “Fehérvár will be a big unknown for us, but I still expect a quality game. In the last season of the ICE Hockey League, they finished second after the Regular Season, which certainly confirms the quality of the team. For me, their league is not that well-known and explored. Overall, hockey in Europe is improving and this also applies to Hungarian teams.”
Sparta Prague Head Coach Pavel Gross: “It will be a very interesting game for the fans. Sparta hasn’t played a Hungarian opponent in a long time. We are aware of the quality of the ICE Hockey League; it is not easy to make it to the final there. There will be a lot of fans of the opponent who will want to show their best in Prague.”
Färjestad Karlstad Head Coach Tomas Mitell: “We have never played a game in Hungary, so this will be a first for us. I know that they have a player on the roster who played in the Färjestad juniors back in the day (Janos Hari), but that is all we a the moment. We will of course scout them as well as possible before our trip to Hungary.”
Lausanne HC Head Coach Geoff Ward: “We’ll have to watch out for a number of individual players in the Hungarian team, such as János Hári or Anze Kuralt. This meeting will bring together two brothers: Balazs Bartalis (skill coach for Lausanne) and Istvan Bartalis.”
Skellefteå AIK Head Coach Robert Ohlsson: "This is the first time we’ll play a Hungarian team. It will be exciting and probably a tough nut to crack.”
Genève-Servette Head Coach Jan Cadieux: “Fehévár finished just behind Klagenfurt in the ICE regular season. They did better than the eventual champion (Salzburg, 3rd) before being upset in the playoffs in the quarter-finals. The Hungarians in the league can count on a strong goaltending duo and their captain János Hári (63 points in 53 games) to give us a hard time. It’s up to us to play our game and get into the match from the outset!”
