Cardiff Devils will trial a standing section for the first time since they moved into their new area three seasons ago.
The Devils took the decision after their Game Day 3 and 4 Champions Hockey League away games in Hradec Kralové and Graz respectively. In previous seasons they’ve also visited Bern and Davos, which also have dedicated areas for their fan clubs.
Nearly all arenas and rinks in the UK are all-seated, although Belfast Giants and Glasgow Clan both have standing sections within their seating areas for fans to gather. The Devils will trial their standing area this weekend’s home game.
“I was there in Graz to see what a standing section of fans waving flags, playing drums and chanting songs all game long can do and it was awesome,” said Managing Director Todd Kelman. “The fans asked for us to trial a standing section so we are, and lots of them said they would be interested to move into that area and help create something amazing.”
The Devils are currently top of Group H, and face defending champions Frölunda Indians on Game Days 5 and 6 for a chance to make the playoffs.
