With voting for the LGT MVP award's first-round open, we turn our attention to another of the shortlisted players: the only Finn on the list, and the CHL leader on Plus-Minus ranking.
It might be his first year with Luleå Hockey, but it’s not the first time Arttu Ilomäki has played in the Champions Hockey League, but none of his previous seasons have been quite as good this. The 28-year-old has gone from strength to strength in his career, from domestic success in his native Finland, to a Gold Medal at the World Championships last year, so he’ll be hoping his impressive performances can continue to add more accolades to his name.
As Luleå gear up for a Semi-Final matchup against the Frölunda Indians, Ilomäki will be a huge part of their hopes of making the final, leading the team with 13-points in nine-games. He’s tied for third in goals scored with six so far in the competition, adding a further seven assists to his name. Luleå have had strong special teams so far and Ilomäki has been a big part of it, with half of his goals coming on the powerplay.
