Continuing our look at the nominees for this season's LGT Most Valuable Player, we turn to the oldest of this year's players up for the award.
Goalie Jonas Hiller is no stranger to success. The Swiss won three championships with HC Davos before the NHL came calling in the summer of 2007. That led to a nine-year career across the Atlantic with the Anaheim Ducks and Calgary Flames, as well as representing his country in three Winter Olympic Games - including the best overall save percentage at the 2018 games in PyeongChang. In 2016 he returned to his homeland and has been a near-permanent fixture between the pipes for EHC Biel-Bienne ever since leading them to their first-ever CHL qualification.
Hiller played four games this season for Biel-Bienne in the Champions Hockey League this season, backstopping the team to wins in both of their opening games and posting a 40-shot shutout at home to Tappara. The 37-year-old later made 50 saves in Gothenburg as Biel-Bienne won the first leg before exiting the competition in the Return Leg. Those performances put Hiller fifth overall for goalies this season with an impressive 95.03% of shots saves.
