The Växjö Lakers have been strong in the Champions Hockey League for the past two seasons, making the Semi-Finals both years. But one of their stars this year is very new to the experience.
Defenceman Joel Persson was playing in Sweden’s third tier last season before moving to the Lakers in the offseason. In his first CHL season, the 23-year-old has nine assists and a goal to his name – and leads the Lakers as LGT Top Scorer.
Being nominated for MVP of the tournament wasn’t even something that had crossed his mind.
"Of course it is a big surprise for me, there is many really good and skilled players in the tournament!"Joel Persson
