The Champions Hockey League's Sport Board has suspended Dan Spang for two games following his Cross-Checking penalty in yesterday's game vs. ZSC Lions.
Spang (#33) of Nottingham Panthers was assesed a 5 + Game Misconduct penalty at 39:28, after he contacted an opponent deemed as Cross checking (IIHF Rule 127).
From the perspective of the CHL Sports Board, Dan Spang (#33) made contact with his stick to the head and neck area of the opposing player in a cross-checking manner. With Spang having puck possession and dumping the puck up ice, an opposing player is approaching in a non-intimidating manner. Dan Spang made a choice to raise his stick to the head and neck area of the opposing player. In addition to raising his stick to a dangerous height, Dan Spang had two hands on his stick and chose to use his stick to a cross checking manner. Dan Spang extended his arms out and up to create additional force to the opposing player, which is deemed dangerous and reckless.
The CHL Sports Board suspends Dan Spang (#33) of Nottingham Panthers for 2 games, effective immediately.
Key Points:
- Stick to head and neck area of opposing player
- Extended stick up and out
- Stick was in a cross checking (horizontal) motion
- Not a repeat offender
The ban will carry over to the next time Dan Spang is registered to play in the CHL, regardless of which team.
