The 2014/15 CHL Champions are two games away from getting a chance to get their hands back on the trophy they famously lifted on home ice in 2015. Since that night, Luleå haven't played another CHL final.
Luleå will play Frölunda for a place in this season's CHL final - a fitting battle between two former champions. Indeed, these two teams have history in the race for the European trophy before. In 2015 Luleå beat Frölunda in the final to claim the title; and a year later revenge was served by the Indians in a shootout after the sides tied their Quarter-Final series 7-7 each after 120 minutes. That was Luleå's last deep run in the CHL - they'd exit the following year in the Group Stage, and then fail to qualify for the next two seasons.
This year however the side from the north of Sweden means business. An almost perfect Group Stage saw them drop only four points and not lose in regulation, while they've swept aside Swiss opposition in the form of SC Bern and Lausanne HC en route to the Semis. Arttu Ilomäki and Robin Kovacs have six goals each so far this campaign and lead the team in scoring, while at the other end David Rautio has been turning away 92.41% of shots he's faced so far while also posting two shutouts.
