The CHL Sports Board has ruled to suspend ZSC Lions Zurich's Dean Kukan one game for an incident that took place during the Swiss club's Game Day 6 clash with Rögle Ängelholm.
Dean Kukan (#46) of ZSC Lions Zurich, time 59:52, was involved in an incident deemed as Slashing (IIHF Rule 61). The video evidence has determined the incident to be worthy of supplementary discipline - Category 1 – ‘Careless’ – insufficient attention or thought to avoid harm or error.
According to the Arbitrator and having considered the video evidence and ruling of the CHL PSC, Dean Kukan (#46) of ZSC Lions Zurich will receive supplementary discipline under Slashing - IIHF Rule 61.
On Tuesday night, ZSC Lions defenseman #46 Dean Kukan used an illegal action, deemed as slashing against Rögle Ängelholm forward #34 Adam Edström, in which he was assessed a 5 minute + Game Misconduct. As the video shows, both Kukan and Edström engage in a battle, immediately after Edström releases the puck. The engagement between the two players was considered, nothing worthy of a penalty, until Kukan delivers a forceful and targeted slash at the hand of Edström.
It is important to note there were two criteria met that raise the slash to supplementary discipline. The first being the location of the slash, which was directed and located at the hand of Edström. Secondly, Kukan delivers the slash in a retaliation effort, which included Kukan bringing his hands together and creating a baseball-like swing.
The CHL Sports Board suspends Dean Kukan (#46) of ZSC Lions Zurich for 1 game, effective immediately. In addition, he has been given a €700 fine and will be considered a repeat offender in the event supplementary discipline is required within the CHL.
