The Cardiff Devils have now won two straight games in the Champions Hockey League after a thumping 5-1 win over the already qualified Växjö Lakers at Ice Arena Wales.
Captain Jake Morissette got Cardiff ahead at 9:27, a lead they held into the break. The middle period belonged to Cardiff, who scored twice without reply to go 3-0 up thanks to Sean Bentivoglio and Craig Moore. The Lakers eventually got on the board at 44:23 through Linus Hogberg, but the Devils were not to be denied their big win. Joey Martin re-established the three-goal lead less than a minute later, and an empty-net goal from Mark Richardson saw them take a 5-1 win.
The teams meet again next week, with Cardiff now third in the group.
