JYP Jyväskylä remain perfect after a 3-1 win over the Capitals in Vienna but, once again, it was a tough battle. It was 1-0 with eight minutes to play before JYP scored a couple of goals to put it out of reach. Sascha Bauer broke Jussi Olkinuora’s shutout with 17 seconds to play.
Henri Kanninen opened the scoring at 16:32 with a cannon of a drive right off an offensive-zone faceoff win for JYP, but despite several chances and a two-man advantage each way, there was no more scoring until the last half of the third period.
Juuso Pustinen made it 2-0 with 7:52 to play, tapping in a rebound after the initial shot by Jani Tuppurainen rang off the crossbar. Then with a power play in the last five minutes, Vienna coach gambled and pulled Jean-Philippe Lamoureux for a 6-on-4 advantage, and Juha-Pekka Hytönen scored an empty-netter.
With now just one point from their first three games, Vienna might have to win their last three games to advance.
