- Deschamps: 2 assists for Rouen
- Pintarič: 35-save shutout in Rouen's 1st ever CHL win
- Pavelka: 23 saves for Mountfield
In their eighth Champions Hockey League game, in their second season of play, the Rouen Dragons have finally won a game, shutting out visiting Mountfield HK 2-0 at Île Lacroix. Netminder Matija Pintarič was superb, stopping all 35 shots that he faced. Jaroslav Pavelka also played well in the Mountfield goal, keeping Rouen off the scoresheet for 39 minutes.
In the 40th minute, however, with 57 seconds left in the second period, the Dragons finally broke through with a powerplay goal. Nicolas Deschamps sent a pass from behind the net out front to Slovak Michel Miklík, who fired it upstairs. Then early in the third period, they made it 2-0. Just after getting back to full strength, Deschamps fed a pass up to Nicolas Ritz, who skated across the blue line and fired a slapper over Pavelka’s glove.
Mountfield still had 16 minutes to mount a comeback and got a couple of good chances inside the last three minutes, but for the most part, the Dragons kept the puck out of danger and Pintarič was solid when called upon.
After the win, the Dragons celebrated on the ice while their fans stayed, showing their appreciation.
