- Ben Street scored two goals
- Leandro Profico scored Rapperswil-Jona Lakers first CHL goal ever
- Munich outshot Rapperswil-Jona 31:25 in shots on goal
Red Bull Munich proved the stronger, more experienced side against CHL newcomers Rapperswil-Jona Lakers, but the Swiss side showcased their feisty spirit and vocal fanbase and were on equal terms with the DEL side, outshooting them 46-44.
Munich got the perfect start to the game, playing high up the ice in front of the Rapperswil-Jona net and their opening pressure paid off with Ben Street firing in a shot that rebounded off the opposition netminder.
Konrad Abeltshauser of Munich was called in for tripping at 5:15 offering the Swiss NL side the chance to test their powerplay line-ups and that paid off with Rapperswil-Jona’s Leandro Profico scoring one and a half minutes later to tie the game 1-1.
After the equaliser, Rapperswil-Jona had a few more chances but none materialised into a goal. Munich stabilised their game and had more of the puck for the remainder of the opening period but both teams headed for the locker rooms at level terms after 20 minutes.
Midway through the second period, Yasin Ehliz of Red Bull Munich redirected Zachary Redmond’s shot into the back of Melvin Nyffeler’s net to put his side into a one-goal lead.
Before the two teams headed for the locker rooms, Ben Street found himself in Rapperswil-Jona’s third with a stray puck coming his way. He didn’t crack under pressure and calmy fired through Nyffeler hitting the top right-hand corner to double his side’s lead.
Munich added two more in the final frame to end their first CHL game of 2022/23 with a comfortable 4-1 win on the road.
