- Ingolstadt win second game in a row
- Michael Garteig saved 26 shots on goal
- Färjestad recorded 2x as many penalty minutes as their hosts
ERC Ingolstadt left it all out on the ice against Färjestad Karlstad and it paid off, with the Germans picking up their second win of the season. Goaltender Michael Garteig was the star player, raking up a solid 93% Save percentage and blocking 26 shots destined to hit the back of the home team's net.
Ingolstadt were first to get their name up on the board when Wayne Simpson got just enough on a shot on goal to redirect it into Maxime Lagacé's net for the first time in the game.
Seven minutes later, Färjestad's Michael Lindqvist scored the equaliser through some heavy traffic in the Ingolstadt net after receiving a pin-perfect pass from Axel Bergkvist.
However, Ingolstadt weren't prepared to let this game slip and remained the more active team of the period. At 14:17, Andrew Rowe found himself in a 2-on-1 with a teammate following a turnover in their defensive zone. A last-minute pass and a dizzy goaltender gave him enough space to slide the puck in to make it 2-1.
The remainder of the first period saw both teams test their special units but the score remained unchanged as the players headed for the locker rooms.
Second-period play started slow, but again it would be Ingolstadt who were more in the game. At 26:09, Wojciech Stachowiak, who scored two goals last time around, doubled Ingolstadt's lead while Färjestad were left scratching their heads at what went wrong.
They pushed and pushed, but a hooking penalty for Mattias Göransson at 33:03 halted them in their tracks and once they returned to full strength they didn't have it in them to catch up.
Färjestad did score to make it 3-2 at the start of the third and even got a powerplay in the final 15 minutes but a well-skating and well-oiled Ingolstadt defence, backed up by a solid Garteig in net, weathered the storm and ran down the clock.
The visitors pulled their goalie with a minute to go but the home crowd only wanted one team to win and this crowd was going to get what it wanted.
