- Dan Kissel scored the only goal of the night
- Stavanger picked up first victory of the season
- Bolzano outshot Stavanger 66-32
HC Bolzano hosted the Stavanger Oilers in their season finale at the Sparkasse Arena in Northern Italy. Both teams were well aware that their Playoff hopes had already faded, having struggled to secure a victory throughout the course of the Regular Season. Nevertheless, there was still much at stake, as neither team wanted to conclude the season with a big fat 0 in the win column.
The opening period was easy on the eye, but to the disappointment of the fans, it lacked in the goal department. Jens Hoekstra was the busier goaltender, facing a barrage of shots as the home team dominated the opening twenty minutes of play.
Despite Bolzano continuing to be the stronger team in the second period, it was Stavanger who broke the goal-scoring deadlock with a powerplay goal at 32:48. Dan Kissel picked up a rebound puck and sent it soaring into the back of the Bolzano net, establishing a 1-0 lead.
Late into the period, the Oilers received a slashing penalty, presenting a superb opportunity for the home team to equalise. Unfortunately, all their chances were blocked by the impenetrable Stavanger goalie, Jens Hoekstra. Making the second period end with Bolzano trailing by one goal.
The third period remained goalless, despite Bolzano's numerous attempts at Hoekstra's net, who blocked 29 shots throughout the night. With nothing to lose, Bolzano played the last minute with an empty net, yet even that gamble wasn't enough to score, resulting in a 1-0 loss for the home team.
Stavanger end the season with four points to their name while Bolzano finish with one point and zero wins.
