- Both SC Bern and Grenoble enter Game Day 5 outside of the Playoff spots
- Kyle Hardy scores the only goal for Grenoble
- Win for Bern keeps them in the Playoff hunt
With two games remaining in the Group Stage, both SC Bern and Grenoble need to pick up some vital points to try and keep their Playoff hopes alive as the two teams met for the first time in Switzerland.
Through the first period, both sides traded opportunities but for the most part the goalies stood firm in their nets. It took until very late in the opening period of play that the deadlock was broken. A pass from the wing by Jeremi Gerber was redirected out in front by Alain Berger with just under two minutes remaining in the first period to put Bern ahead by one.
It didn't take as long in the second period for a goal to come, and once again it was SC Bern who found the back of the net. As they entered the zone with speed, Inti Pestoni went behind the back of the net and found Justin Kruegerout in front, who fired a quick wrist shot past the glove of Lukáš Horák to make it a 2-0 game. Despite both sides efforts through the rest of the second period, neither team could find another one setting up a close third period.
Early in the third, Bern extended their lead to 3-0 as Gregory Sciaroni scored his second of the campaign, and later in the final period Grenoble would stop the shutout bid for Niklas Schlegel as Kyle Hardy fired one from the high slot to make it a 3-1 game. With tim winding down, and a two goal gap between the sides, Grenoble pulled the goalie to try and mount a comeback, but those hopes were gone when Eric Blum fired into the empty net to make it 4-1 to the hosts, securing all three points and making it an interesting race for Playoff places with three teams still in the hunt in Group E.
