- Maxime Lagacé secured a shutout
- Färjestad took the aggregate lead in the second period
- Oskar Steen sealed the win with an empty netter
Färjestad Karlstad hosted Red Bull Salzburg at the Löfbergs Arena to conclude their Quarter-Final match-up. Just like the First Game, this game was entertaining, with both teams giving everything to earn a place in the Semi-Finals. However, one team shined far brighter, and the scoreboard told the full story.
The first period started quietly, which suited Salzburg, as they entered the game with a two-goal advantage from the First Game in early December. Färjestad, on the other hand, came out more aggressive, knowing they needed to turn the tide. The home team managed to create several good scoring opportunities, but Salzburg’s netminder Atte Tolvanen kept the game scoreless with some great saves.
The second period, however, completely changed the game’s dynamic. Färjestad stormed back with three unanswered goals to take control. Lucas Forsell opened the scoring at 21:38 with a swift attack and a perfectly placed shot. Just a few minutes later, Marcus Westfält doubled the lead, slipping the puck through the goalie’s pads.
At 31:57, Axel Bergkvist added Färjestad’s third goal, shocking the Austrians and giving the home team the aggregate lead. With no further goals in the period, Färjestad headed for the locker room firmly in control.
The momentum carried over into the final period, as Färjestad continued to dominate. At 48:40, Alexander Ljungkrantz scored a breakaway goal moments after stepping out of the penalty box. Only a minute later, at 49:43, David Tomášek capitalised on a powerplay from a hooking call, further extending the lead.
Salzburg’s final attempt to salvage the game included pulling their goaltender for an extra attacker, but the risk didn’t pay off. Oskar Steen sealed the game with an empty-net goal from a sharp angle, bringing the score to 6-0 on the night and more importantly a decisive 7-3 on aggregate.
As the final buzzer echoed through the arena, Färjestad celebrated a well-deserved victory and secured their place in the Semi-Finals.
