- Lasu & Krištof: 2 goals each for Kärpät
- Pfoderl: 2 points for Ice Tigers
- Kärpät: sole possession of 1st place in Group F
Kärpät Oulu made a huge statement as they hosted the THOMAS SABO Ice Tigers, registering one of the biggest wins of the 2018/19 Champions Hockey League campaign so far. Kärpät managed two goals in the opening frame, with two quick ones from Mika Pyörälä and Michal Krištof. Early in the second period, Kärpät extended their lead thanks to a second goal from Krištof, and just moments later Otto Karvinen tucked in a loose puck in the crease, giving Kärpät a 4–0 advantage.
The Ice Tigers did their best to get back into the game, scoring twice in quick succession, firstly through top scorer Leonhard Pfoderl, and then Will Acton adding another, but before the period was out, Kärpät continued to press with Jasper Lindsten and Niklas Lasu making it 6–2 with 20 minutes left to play, in what was a very physical, and penalty full middle passage of play that saw a total of 105 penalty minutes called between both teams.
A dominant start for Kärpät in the third saw them register three quick goals inside the first five minutes, and with just one more goal from the Ice Tigers through Brandon Buck, Kärpät eased their way to a heavy 9–3 victory, keeping their 100% win record alive for the Liiga champions.
"Of course it is nice to win like this. It was good to get some goals myself too. Two wins is a good start but its gonna be a long tournament, hopefully."Niklas Lasu (Kärpät Oulu)
"It didn't go the way we wanted today... We really appreciate those 170 who came all this way to support us. We want to make sure that we recognise their support."Brandon Buck (THOMAS SABO Ice Tigers)
