- Red Bull Munich hosted HC05 Banská Bystrica in Group G action
- Konrad Abeltshauser opened the scoring midway through the second period
- Munich still yet to concede this season, with Kevin Reich stopping all 21 shots he faced
With the first round of games in the books, it’s time for Game Day 2, and over in Group G it was last year’s Finalists Red Bull Munich searching for their second win in as many games, as they welcomed the HC05 Banská Bystrica to the Olympia-Eisstadion, with the side from Slovakia looking for an improved performance following their 6 – 1 loss at the hands of Färjestad Karlstard on Thursday night.
There was plenty of bite in the two teams as they came out for the opening period, with a lot of physicality as the they traded chances, but both Kevin Reich in the Munich goal and Bystrica netminder Tyler Beskorowany shut the door to keep it scoreless after 20 minutes of action. With Beskorowany continuing to play strong in the Bystrica net, it took until the midway mark of the middle period for Munich to finally find a way past him. A shot from the point by Konrad Abeltshauser through a sea of bodies, but it was a deflection of the defenders skate that finally saw the puck go into the back of the net, giving the hosts a 1-0 lead which stood until the end of the second period.
Munich had reason to celebrate early in the third period, it took just 17 seconds for Patrick Hager to add a second goal, putting it past the blocker of Beskorowany after a nice pass from behind the net from Yasin Ehliz. Munich grabbed a third with just seconds remaining in the game, a nice snap shot from Justin Schütz found its way to the back of the net to give the hosts a 3-0 victory, maintaining their perfect record and securing a second straight shutout victory.
