The 2025 Champions Hockey League Final is getting closer and closer and both our Finalists, ZSC Lions Zurich and Färjestad Karlstad, have played their final domestic league games and are now fully focused on the all-or-nothing game ahead!
How have their last five games panned out and in what form do they enter the ultimate game of the CHL season? Let's find out!
ZSC Lions Zurich
It's been a tough five games for the reigning Swiss champions, as the current second-placed team in the National League have had three games forced into overtime and only managed to win two of the last five.
Rolling back to early February, the Lions faced HC Lugano in a tense game that didn't end up falling the CHL Finalists' way thanks to an OT-winning goal from Lugano. Next up were EHC Biel-Bienne, who also bested Zurich, though the Finalists did manage to score three this time.
A home game against HC Ajoie saw the Lions roar once again as they took a commanding 4-0 win in a game where CHL Top Scorer Sven Andrighetto struck twice and assisted once and close runner-up Denis Malgin also scored two points.
Their last two games ahead of the CHL Final, which the Swiss team are playing at home in the Swiss Life Arena, were both decided after regulation time. A home game against Fribourg-Gottéron saw the Lions bested in overtime, while an away trip against current no. 1 team in the National League Lausanne HC saw Zurich win the extra point from a shootout win.
Despite the mix of results, positives to take away are that the Swiss CHL Finalists have scored in each of their last five games, kept one clean sheet, and have had valuable overtime and shootout experience heading into a very closely contested game with it all on the line.
Färjestad Karlstad
In the very close battle for the top places in the SHL, Färjestad Karlstad, who recently headed into their CHL game as the very top team in Sweden, have slipped down to fourth following a tough string of losses.
Where to start with Färjestad? The Regular Season Winners of 2024/25 and one of the strongest teams we've had this season in the CHL have hit a tough spot since securing their place in the CHL Final, winning only 2/8 games since.
Their last five includes a 3-0 win over close rivals Timra, but 19 goals against in their last four games point to a problem in net and in defence.
Up front things have been better, with the Swedes scoring in all of their last five games, but they'll have to sharpen up when they skate out for the CHL Final on Tuesday.
A four-game string of losses is not what Färjestad want heading into the most important game of their CHL season, but they've taken bad results on the chin and bounced back quickly in the past so watch out!
